The murder mystery struck reviewers as a twisted genre flick with a potent emotional core. Supposedly inspired by real events, the story revolves around one Barot family. Amit Sadh and Manjari Fadnnis play parents to four children. They reside in a big mansion near the coast of Daman — a rare location for a Hindi film. Their idyllic existence is tragically interrupted when one of the daughters is found murdered, followed by another.

The team used mica stone for all of the walls, floors and ceilings, because it has a unique way of brightening and mellowing as the light changes throughout the day. This realisation also helped me build this character. Aaryan's performance helps fill up the black spaces in the screenplay. The Barot family's predicament never attains the immediacy and urgency it should have.

The 90-minute film is shot in plot-friendly locations, but the images and visuals are more often tacky then eerie. One day Anthony's son Roshan is murdered and Amit tries to hang Malhar to save everyone but he couldn't. The police questions Amit for Roshan's murder and Amit says that Malhar is the murderer. 'Barot House' review: Chilling if you stop disbelieving

For a good part of this bad-karma plot the camera wobbles and shakes its way through a series of half-baked episodes, rounding up the suspects with a twist in the second-half that I am afraid I saw coming. One of them is a neighbour with no seeming grudge except a dog that died mysteriously. We liked the storyline of the movie, which will definitely hit you hard and make you predict throughout.

I am afraid -- "very afraid" -- that the child actor Aaryan Mengji who plays the coldblooded serial killer, is the scene-stealer of this supposedly steely but ultimately plastic thriller. Aaryan with his curly hair and fanatical beats on the tabla (which earned him the nickname 'Zakir' from the other characters) and his sly diabolic evil smirk, is chilling to the bones. Its biggest draw is its ability to seek the scary in a normal household. The plot of this ZEE5 Original film revolves around murder and crime.
